A little history on Blue Wave...
We first opened our doors in St. Charles, Missouri at 500 S. Fifth Street on November 1, 1989. At that time we began in business with the name Fitness Foundation on our door. It was a small studio and the program we offered first was traditional martial art training for children and adults. Soon after we moved to a slightly larger location in St. Charles and added personal training services and some aerobics classes to our schedule. In 1996 we moved westward to O'fallon and increased the size of our studio again. At that time we also officially changed the name of our studio to Blue Wave Martial Art Center to reflect our martial arts tradition and the original Tae Kwon Do style from whence our program came. Despite the name change we continued teach the same martial arts techniques and philosophy that we began with 6 years prior. The year 2000 marked a significant addition to our fitness program when we added Cardio Kickboxing. Another big addition came in 2005 when our Fitness Boot Camp program took off. Our most recent move came in 2008 when we moved into our great big beautiful studio in Lake St. Louis. At that time we also added to our company name, Blue Wave Martial Arts and Fitness. Along the way we have offered many diverse classes to keep pace with our clients needs including step aerobics, fit ball, yoga, belly dancing, hip-hop, and zumba. But at the end of the day we have found that our most popular programs continue to be these 5 specialty areas:
-
Traditional Martial Arts for Adults
-
A fun class for children called Karate Kids
-
Cardio Kickboxing
-
Personal Training
-
Fitness Boot Camp
It is in these 5 programs that we have gained our reputation for being the best of the best. And, while we continue to remain open minded about future course offerings, we will undoubtedly remain focused on being the area landmark in our specialties.
How we do business...
We believe that first we have to have a top notch product to offer. Our 5 specialty areas fit that criterion. Over and over again we have had new client/customers enroll coming from other local competitors and tell us that our class offerings are unbelievably head and shoulders above the rest. And, while we love the compliments, we also know that only by continuing to work hard will we remain at the head of the pack. So we work hard to have good classes and programs by training, education, and research relating to what we do in our specialty areas.
Next, it is our feeling that every student or client should become a long-term relationship but not because of an obligation on their part. In that vein we try to always give only the best in terms of customer service and we have never used contracts. And we never will use contracts. Never. No contracts. We want you to be here because you want to be here. Everything we do from the front desk to the store room is with that in mind.
Last, but not least, we maintain our facility so that you feel like you are comfortable and at home. Clean and spotless from edge to edge and front to back. We worked hard to lay out Blue Wave so that it is attractive and welcoming when you come here. We strive daily to keep it that way.
Our owner and head instructor...
Master David Blevins started working on his career as a teenager. Enrolling in martial arts classes at 15 and lettering in high school football got the ball rolling back in 1975. With his appetite whetted Blevins began his martial art study in earnest in Kansas City with the renowned Great Grand Master Yong Taek Chung. Chung was an original student at the Blue Wave Institute in Seoul (worlds first Tae Kwon Do academy). Later Y. T. Chung became one of very few to ever reach 9th Degree Black Belt. It was during those brutal and grueling years under Chung's direction that David Blevins forged the craft that was to later become a vocation. Now, 36 years later, Master David Blevins is a 6th Degree Blackbelt. He received his Certified Personal Trainer certification in 1991. And in other education pursuits Blevins studied math and music in college receiving a B.A. in Mathematics with a 4.0 GPA. Also, an orchestral trumpet player since age 10, Blevins has played with many organizations including the St. Louis Philharmonic.
